January 27, 1888 – The National Geographic Society is founded in Washington D.C. Its purpose is to promote Geography and culture amongst the people. Unfortunately, they miss their mark since a majority of Americans still have no clue as to where Pakistan is or that Chad is actually a country in Africa, not the name of their new next door neighbor.
